For Kids

Callin' Out

Listen up! Hear me now! I'm callin' out kids 12 to 18. Let me give you this single piece of knowledge I wish I had when I was your age:

the fitness patterns you develop now will be with you for the rest of your life.

Whether you don't like to or don't have to work out, I encourage you to develop a fitness work ethic anyway. Not in a crazy-obsessive-gotta-be-a-supermodel type way, but something more than sitting in front of video games and smootching rides off of everyone.

When I was in high school there were really pretty girls in my class who didn't work out at all. When bikini season came around they would just do some drastic diet and voila! They'd look good in a bikini! It was easy and they figured they knew the formula. I on the other hand was someone who was always a few Chicken McNuggets away from having a gut. As a result, for good or for bad, I've had to work out most of my adult life and consequently feel very natural at any gym, pool, track, whathaveyou. Boy am I thankful for that!

Because you see, no matter who you are you're going to hit an age when a few days of calorie restriction will no longer get you into beach shape. UH OH. What will you do? And though you may feel that age safely off in the distance, to be dealt with later, I encourage you to invest in yourself NOW, not just to benefit 10 or 20 years down the road, but to learn amazing things about yourselves at this moment!

Believe me, I see it all around me. People who have hit that age and suddenly NEED to work out and its scary and its hard and who knows if it will even cause results! Yikes!

I can help you. (Because I'm pretty sure you won't listen to your parents.) And in this case maybe you shouldn't listen to your parents, unless they walk the walk and talk the talk i.e. are fit themselves. And I want to help you. So if you or your parents can't pay for my services, email me anyway and I'll see what I can do for you.

There are essentially two levels of kids (that come to mind) that I can help. The first level would be kids who already have a decent workout ethic; perhaps they are on a school team which requires conditioning. If this is you, I can help you hone your skills (in whatever sport -- it doesn't matter --its all mental anyway) and more importantly, cause breakthroughs for you in a fun, productive way.

Here's how I was in high school. I was on the basketball team and was fairly decent. Typical kid that I was I wouldn't think about getting in shape until about 1 month before the season started. I'd lace up my high-tops and go run as hard as I could around the track, perhaps lasting a couple of laps, hurt, then call it a day. Maybe repeat this work out a few days later. In other words, I had no clue about what I was doing! And my results, well, what results??

I sincerely wish I had a coach like me in my life back then because I sure wasn't going to listen to my dad. (Oh, that's a whole other story!) And the team coaches back then were just teachers moonlighting on the side-nothing wrong with that, they were great people, but they weren't always very knowledgable or inspirational.

And so if you're this type of kid, I can will transform for you what are now "work outs" into "training," an huge distinction.
